How to Run a Successful Pop-Up Shop

how to run a pop up shop

This is the perfect time of the year to introduce a pop-up shop to the high street or an event. There are an abundance of holidays and special events coming up: Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas to name just three. A “pop-up shop” is the term given to a temporary retail event that is "here today, gone tomorrow". Pop-up retail is the short-term use of physical space, a retail kiosk for example, to create a long term, lasting impression with potential customers. A pop-up shop allows a brand to engage and interact with customers in a unique environment while creating an immersive shopping experience. All in all, a retail opportunity ideal for special events.

Here we share three tips on how to run a pop-up shop, once it hits the public eye.

Tips on How to Run a Pop-Up Shop

1. Management

Create a management plan to follow so you and your team are aware of the procedures and routine of the days. Your plan needs to include the day to day operations such as cash handling, complaints procedures and stock control. There’s also a need to set plans in place for dealing with shoplifters and any special situations that may arise, such as bad weather contingency plans. Have a set manager for the running of your pop-up shop so everyone knows who is in charge.

2. Don’t Just Sell

You have the opportunity of interacting with your audience and while sales are an obvious goal, you could do more. Use the time you have to educate your consumers, informing them about your business, your products and what makes you better than everyone else. It’s also a great idea to use this time to discover more about your customers. Do your research, ask for feedback and provide incentives to ensure you get answers and future leads such as email addresses or social network likes.

3. Listen and Learn

The sales data and feedback you received will help you to strengthen your brand. After your pop-up shop closes, work with the data you’ve collected to help you make improvements for the future. Carry out follow up outreach through your email lists and social networks and let people know about changes you’re making and the feedback you’ve received.
