Retail Units for Sports Venues

Race meetings at one of the country’s top courses have become more punter-friendly following a new initiative to reduce queuing times.

Together with our sister company, Rapid Retail, we have won a prestigious contract for the design, build and supply of retail units for sports venue, Newbury Racecourse. The first units were delivered in time for November’s three-day Bet365 Hennessy Festival, which attracted more than 30,000 spectators.

Supplied ready to operate, the bespoke branded polycarbonate retail kiosks were commissioned to allow fans to easily see where they could buy programmes and race-cards.

This is our first order with Newbury Racecourse. Our retail units are in situ at many racecourses in the UK and our customers can be found in many sports venues and sectors including football, cycling, tennis, cricket and rugby in the UK, Europe and Middle East. We also supply units for music festivals, and have recently launched a range of kiosks for council market operators to support the revamp of Britain’s markets in town centres.

Newbury Racecourse is over 100 years old with the first recorded race taking place in 1905, but has since developed to combine its heritage with modern sporting and event needs. It provides 29 race fixtures annually and is currently undergoing a multi-million pound redevelopment plan to become a vibrant leisure and events business, with horse racing at its core.

The advantages of retail units for sports venues

Nick Daffern, the company's MD, said: “With Newbury Racecourse being so popular we were asked to advise on how to make the kiosks easily visible to race-goers, while offering a secure, yet customer-friendly environment from which the sellers could operate. Our kiosks are easy to move around, to be placed strategically depending on what is needed. We hope this first venture with Newbury will lead to even more business for us in this popular sports sector.”

Liz Whittaker, Head of Operations at Newbury Racecourse added: “We were planning for increased footfall at the Bet365 Hennessy Festival and were keen for our spectators to have an enhanced customer experience. We were looking for a product that was smart, flexible and secure. UK Kiosks, together with Rapid Retail, understood our objectives and delivered an excellent service”.

Retail units for sports venues can be purchased or hired, to reduce initial investment, and at the end of a product’s life the unit can be returned and recycled.
